Emma Philpott has been appointed to the role of Board Intern, beginning her two-year tenure at the beginning of 2025.
Acting Heamana/Chair Stephen Canny said he was excited to have the internship programme underway and welcomed Emma, as the first intern of the programme, to the Trust.
“We are thrilled to welcome Emma and look forward to the fresh perspective, financial skillset and enthusiasm she will bring to the table,” he said.
The internship programme was developed in recognition of people needing opportunities to have hands on exposure and the ability to participate in strategic leadership and board level decision making.
Community Trust South Chief Executive Officer, Jackie Flutey, said it was important to support growth in governance across our local hapori/community.
“By fostering leadership opportunities, we are supporting our leaders of tomorrow to build strong foundations for our communities to thrive in. It is through initiatives like the trustee internship that we can develop networks and support volunteer capacity across the rohe, and consequently work towards achieving our strategic aspiration of a thriving south - Murihiku manawa tōnui,”
During her internship, Emma will attend and participate in all board meetings and selected committees in an observing role.
A born and bred Southlander, Emma is an associate at McCulloch & Partners with many touchpoints to the wider community, including rural and commercial sectors and local sporting organisations.
Emma has been involved in the accounting industry for 12 years having completed her Bachelor of Commerce through the Southern Institute of Technology and her Chartered Accountancy through CAANZ. Emma brings to the role her technical accounting skillset and after recently completing a governance programme through her workplace, a practical toolkit for being an effective board member.
Emma said she was looking forward to learning from the experienced trustees that sit on the Community Trust South Board.
“I feel very fortunate to have been given this amazing opportunity and am eager to soak up all of the learning opportunities presented whilst also contributing to the development of the Board over the next two years,” she said.
Alongside the introduction of the trustee internship programme, Deputy President of Mataura Licensing Trust, Vince Aynsley will attend all board meetings in an observer role., Mr Aynsley is using this opportunity to share learnings and experience between Community Trust South and Mataura Licensing Trust.
Community Trust South Chief Executive, Jackie Flutey, said Mr Aynsley’s attendance at meetings was an example of the collaborative working relationships between local funders, and the shared desire of Community Trust South and Mataura Licensing Trust to best support the communities that they serve.
